MENTOR Program

The Vienna Wireless Society (VWS) has a Mentor program designed to assist members, especially members new to amateur radio, who would like a little help with questions that relate to amateur radio. This program pairs the Club member with a more experienced member of VWS (Mentor). Mentors volunteer their services, so a member knows that his or her Mentor is ready and willing to help. Mentors don’t necessarily have all the answers, of course, but they will help where they can!

A Mentor might be able to answer your technical or operating questions, or might be able to introduce you to another Club member who is willing to help. There are VWS members who are active in DX (communication with foreign stations), QRP (low power communicating using less than five watts), rag chewing (casual conversation), emergency communications, communications in support of public service events, use of the digital modes, rebuilding vintage radio equipment, building radios and antennas, constructing electronic equipment, and many more aspects to our vibrant hobby of amateur radio.

The Mentor Group hosts the Club’s Antenna Installation Team. The Team can help Club members install wire antennas in trees and associated a communications-system related electrical grounding system. All we ask is you reimburse the Mentor Group for out-of-pocket expenses for materials.
