April Club Events

World Amateur Radio Day is Apr 18th and you’ll hear a lot of stations calling CQ WARD, not only on the 18th, but all month long.  Join the fun and celebrate by wishing a fellow Ham Happy WARD on the air.  The theme this year is:   “Advancing the Spirit of Amateur Radio Through Innovation”, reflecting its centenary year and ongoing work to promote cutting-edge technology and community engagement.  In April, ask  one of our Techs to join you in the shack and let him/her enjoy the hobby.  Alternatively, monitor the K4HTA or K4XY repeaters and greet folks who check out our repeater by wishing them a happy WARD.  Finally, if the spirit moves you .. walk down the street and knock on a door of a (inactive) Ham in your neighborhood.  You can locate Hams in your neighborhood using the following app:  https://haminfo.tetranz.com/map  More information at the ARRL website:  https://www.arrl.org/world-amateur-radio-day/

Annual Spring Picnic is Saturday April, 25 (rain or shine) 11AM to 2PM at Nottaway Park in Vienna, 9537 Courthouse Road, Vienna, VA, 22181, at Shelter A.

It’s Going to be an Absolutely Awesome VWS Picnic! Great Food! Great Fun! Great Camaraderie! Cool Stuff!

Activity Planning is currently underway, but so far we have a ‘Radio Show and Tell’ of your really Cool Stuff (radios, antennas, batteries, Maker projects, a telescope with a solar filter installed for safe viewing of sunspots, etc), and a Fox Hunt!

Other possibilities include operating the Club Remote Station, POTA operating demo, a Maker activity or Other Fun Thing. (If you have an interesting item for Radio Show and Tell please bring it to the picnic something fun, and Not Too Boring.) A picnic cooking demonstration will be held around 11:45 AM. We need volunteers to make these things happen!
